Fueled up to get more new settlers involved in their new community

A really big thank you to Volunteering Victoria and the Department of Social Services for grants that reimburse volunteers for fuel expenses supporting newly arrived families.  Our volunteer membership is diverse, including quite a few new settlers who have previously been supported by Sanctuary Group and are now giving back and helping others.

The fuel vouchers are greatly valued as our members spend a lot of time assisting new arrivals with transport to and from appointments, shopping, sporting involvements and general support.

Other members mentor learner drivers to gain driving experience under supervision.

Government sponsored families: whilst there were no new families arriving in 2020-21, members continued to support new arrivals where other agencies were unable.  We thank the cooperative informal arrangements with Red Cross, Uniting Care, Gateway Health and Albury Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau that have enabled the broader community to support the practical and pastoral needs of new arrivals.

Policies and procedures: continued to be reviewed and new policies created to address new and emerging issues.
