… from little things, big things grow

Sr Bernice Keane recently retired after 16 years as an active member of MVSRG.  Sr Keane has contributed in many ways behind the scenes and her support has been much appreciated.  We are grateful for the ongoing support of the Sisters of Mercy for important supports, including “arrival packs” to assist refugees with the basics of setting up house.

This is a good opportunity to thank other Foundation members and donors.  When MVSRG initially began, fundraising events and donations went towards awarding no interest loans for airfares for sponsored families from refugee camps in Africa to resettle in Albury Wodonga.

From little things, big things grow.  Did you know that a total of 62 no-interest-loans have been granted to refugees over the past 16 years, totalling $212,632 of loans.

These loans are mainly for airfares for refugee families to fly from Africa to Australia.  Families have been repaying these off over an average of two years, which then enables us to continue to loan funds out for more airfares.

During the past year, laptop loans enabled High School students to continue their studies during school closures when learning shifted online.  I take this opportunity to thank new settlers for continuing these regular repayments despite the many challenges during this past year.
